Like the Firesign Theatre, the Credibility Gap—Harry Shearer, David L. Lander, Michael McKean, and Richard Beebe—created dense, counterculture humor that lampooned sacred cows and shibboleths alike. This 1977 release includes a rock 'n' roll version of the famous Abbott & Costello routine "Who's on First?"; ersatz radio ads based on ethnic stereotypes (with some potent racial slurs used satirically); parodies of government figures ("Tricia's Honeymoon," "The L.B.J. Tape," "Senator Kennedy's Next Speech"); and "The World's Greatest Man Pageant." Having used the Credibility Gap as a whetstone to sharpen his humor, Shearer went on to such projects as This is Spinal Tap, Best in Show, and A Mighty Wind.
