|
Sam Peckinpah's first big budget film was taken over by the studio and drastically cut when he went over budget while filming in Mexico. Forty years later surviving footage was patched back in and a new soundtrack was commissioned to replace the original one, which the renowned director hated. This restored, extended version of the 1965 Western classic brings welcome depth and resonance to Peckinpah's story of an obsessive Union officer (Charlton Heston) who leads a squad of Rebel prisoners, ex-slaves, and criminals on an epic journey into Mexico to hunt down a band of murderous Apaches.
